Sarah had today a little 'taster' day at her school-to-be. She spent the afternoon with her teacher and other kids from her class in her class room at the local elementary school. She liked it! She already knows some of the kids from her play group. She will start school end of August.

Another long weekend! This time we managed to get out and do something. We went to Murten where we had planned to walk along the lake. But because there was a triathlon taking place, we couldn't walk very far. It was still lovely to be at the lake side. Sarah enjoyed the playgrounds and we all dipped our feet into the water of the lake!

We had a long weekend. Unfortunately both kids were a bit ill, so we didn't do much. On Saturday Sarah had two birthday parties! She has picked up a bit of French already at crèche and she even started to use a few Dutch words again, because our new neighbours have also previously lived in Holland (very near us!!) and their kids speak Dutch as well as English. Talking of Holland - Nick has been to Holland for a few days 2 weeks ago. Now we have enough ontbijtkoek (spicy cake) again to last us a few weeks! Both kids love the stuff (and me, too).

I had my first week at work. It is so good to be back at work!! The driving (190km per day) is exhausting but also at the same time relaxing without kids in the car ;-). Sarah has settled in at crèche really quickly. Niall on the other hand picked up a virus during his introduction days at crèche and has been ill with diarrhea for the whole first week. I didn't want to start work by staying at home for a week, so Nick had to cancel all his appointments and stayed at home with Niall for the week. Niall has visibly lost weight but he started to eat a bit better again today and he will be able to go back to crèche next week.

Niall has also started to walk free just after his first birthday and he is getting better and better at it! He is a little monkey, too - if we don't watch him, he is suddenly sitting on the coffee table or even on the dining table (using Sarah's highchair to climb up). Luckily he always giggles while climbing up, so we notice it in time....

After the Easter egg hunt and Easter breakfast, Stefan, Ilka and Jorim left us to drive back home, and we went for a day out. We drove over the 'Jauenpass' to Spiez on lake Thun. We had a picnic at the lakeside before setting off for a walk along the shore of the lake. In the afternoon we took a ship back to Thun, where we enjoyed some strawberries and ice cream in a cafe.

Happy Easter!!
I finally got to see my little nephew! Stefan, Ilka and Jorim spent a one-week holiday with us. The kids got on very well. Ilka, Stefan and Jorim explored the area a bit. Sarah and Niall had also their first half-day at crèche (for acclimatiation). On Sunday Sarah was very excited about all those presents and Easter eggs that she found in the garden...

Sarah and Niall's Grandma came to visit us for 4 days. On Saturday Sarah showed her the promenade in Montreux. On Sunday was Niall's 1^st birthday. He had lots of presents to unwrap (Sarah happily volunteered to help him). Later we went to the zoo and had some birthday cake there. Sarah and Niall both also enjoyed the playground at the zoo.

Nick has returned from the US and we celebrated briefly his birthday before he went to pick up his mum from the airport.

Oma and Opa stayed with us for a week while daddy is in America for 1.5 weeks. We had great weather and spent a lot of time outdoors. Opa helped us building our raised border for growing vegetables. Sarah went cycling along the lakeside in Montreux and Vevey with Oma and Opa. Niall loves to crawl around in the garden and play in the sand. But he also picks up stones and plants and sticks them into his mouth... Niall got a second-hand bobby car from Oma and Opa for his birthday, and Sarah has been driving Niall around the garden with it.
