26.12.2006

We had a very nice Christmas time. My parents and my brother stayed with us from Saturday to Tuesday. In the end we did it the 'English way', i.e. unwrapping our presents on Christmas day in the morning. It actually took almost until lunchtime to unwrap all the presents because we got so many! Santa was very generous this year! For Christmas dinner we had nut roast or meat plus roast potatoes and parsnips, mashed Swede, Brussels sprouts, carrots, peas and sherry-mushroom sauce. Quite an organizational challenge with a small cooker...

23.12.2006

I finally finished two more water colour paintings - one for the baby room and one for my parents for Christmas! The lighthouse is in northern Germany and is called Westerhever. My parents once almost drowned there because of a springtide...

19.12.2006

I had a little pre-birthday party last Sunday with some colleagues. We played "wichteln" (Julklapp, Secret Santa) with nice presents and stuff we wanted to get rid off. I ended up with a fantastic Father Christmas hat, Nick got the DVD of "Chocolat". Besides we pulled crackers, which is why we wear the stupid crowns on the picture. Today Nick and I went out for a nice meal in a restaurant in Delft to celebrate my birthday. I got lots of nice presents, which made it a bit easier to cope with the fact that I am now in my 30ies...

I am now on maternity leave!! One more month to go before our life will be turned upside down... I am weighing more than Nick by now. You can click on the picture on the right to see a bigger version of my belly...

03.12.2006

We have been to the Mauritshuis in Den Haag with Nick's mum yesterday. We saw famous Vermeer paintings (Het meisje met de parel / Gezicht op Delft) and a special exhibition on Rubens & Brueghel.

01.12.2006

Nick is back from his 2-week business trip to Shanghai.

12.11.2006

I have finished two more water colour paintings in my course! We were asked to paint tulips (of course!). For the second picture our task was to copy a photograph. I chose a picture from Abel Tasman National Park in New Zealand (original on the right). You can enlarge the pictures by clicking on them.

06.11.2006

We have been to the UK last weekend to visit Nicks family. We went for a walk in the park, saw fireworks (it was Guy Fawkes Night) and did a lot of shopping for the baby.

03.11.2006

Nick has had his "Labuitje" yesterday. He went with his colleagues to the chocolatier De Lelie in Delft. He made some chocolate artwork (see picture) and same chocolates.

22.10.2006

We worked on the baby room this weekend. We cleaned it, painted the window frame, put up a blind and curtains and decided on the best position of the furniture. Now we only need to buy a few more things and paint some animals on the walls and it is finished. You can see on the pictures below what the room used to look like when it was Katja's office and what it looks like now!

We are having trouble with our guest book. We removed it from the website until the problem is solved. Most of you know anyway how to contact us...

11.10.2006

I (Katja) am following a water colour painting course at the "volksuniversiteit" in Delft. I have just finished my first attempt of a painting! We had to paint a scaly monster in order to practise light-dark transitions. If you click on the picture, you can enlarge it.

We have just come back from a really enjoyable holiday in Northumbria, UK. We went by ferry from IJmuiden to Newcastle and stayed in a little cottage in Seahouses at the coast. We visited many castles, walked on the beach, saw Hadrian's wall and spent a day in Edinburgh. Unfortunately, we could not see any puffins (the bird on the picture on the right), because it was not the right season. But they are very common in the area. For our holiday photos click here.
