We survived our first 2 weeks in the crèche / back at work!
Oma and Opa came to visit Sarah for the weekend.

03.06.2007

My maternity and parental leave is over. I've got to go back to work tomorrow - after almost half a year of leave. I enjoyed the last weeks at home with Sarah so much! I am going to work only four days per week and Sarah will go to the crèche while I am at work.

Today we worked hard in the garden, digging out lots of plants and moving them to different places. We are knackered from all this unaccustomed back-breaking work... And tomorrow we have to walk 5km in Rotterdam! We are participating in the Walk the World walk of the UN World Food Programme (WFP). We help raise funds for WFP’s School Feeding Programme in Malawi, Ghana, Indonesia and Colombia. Thanks to all our sponsors!

Last Friday Sarah, Nick and I went to Germany to visit Sarah's Oma and Opa. Uncle Stefan and Ilka came to see Sarah, too. On Sunday Nick had to go home by train as he had to catch a flight to Sao Paulo on Monday morning. Sarah and I stayed in Germany until Thursday. Lots of friends and great-uncles and great-aunts dropped by to meet Sarah. She enjoyed all this attention. She is a little sunshine and smiles, giggles and squeals a lot.

30.04.2007

Today is Koninginnedag (Queensday)! It is usually the birthday of the Dutch monarch, but as the current queen has her birthday in winter, she continued to use her mother's birthday as Koninginnedag. On this day people can sell anything on the streets (vrijmarkt).
We went to see friends who live close to Nijmegen. Together we went to the vrijmarkt in Nijmegen, which is really big. We bought a little toy and a Winnie the Pooh jumper for Sarah, each for 0,50 EUR!

28.04.2007

We had our antenatal class reunion today. Four of the five couples came to present their babies - all of them little girls dressed in little pink dresses (including Sarah). Sarah was very shy and didn't say a word all afternoon...

23.04.2007

Nick's Dad and his partner Gloria came to see us for the weekend. On Friday we went to Scheveningen and Den Haag by tram. On Saturday we walked around Amsterdam, did a boat trip on the canals and had a BBQ in the evening. We also spent some time in Delft on Sunday. The weather was just perfect for sightseeing!
Sarah was happy to be taken to all these places and did not complain at all. She is now sleeping through the night every night!!

17.04.2007

Sarah received her second shot of vaccines yesterday. She is coping with it very well. Besides she was measured and weighed: She is now 5556g (12.25lb) heavy and 59cm (23 inch) tall. So she is growing exactly on the "average-baby-line". Only her head is bigger than average (seems to run in the family as her uncle also had a fairly big head as a child...).

15.04.2007

We had our first BBQ of this season yesterday!!! Hard to believe that it is only April and we can sit outside in the garden until late in the evening with shorts and T-shirt (well that's Nick - I was actually wearing a bit more)! The forecast for today is 27°C! What will summer be like! We are thinking about getting an air-conditioning for the bedroom...

10.04.2007

Nick's mum came to visit us for the long Easter weekend. We celebrated Nick's and her birthday. On Sunday Chris, Door, Chrisje and Harm joined us for a little Easter and birthday party. The weather was so nice that we were able to sit in the garden. In the evening Nick and I went out for a meal - for the first time since my birthday!
Sarah is changing a lot at the moment. She stopped making all these "agooh" and "booh" sounds and started to grab things instead.

04.04.2007

We have been to Keukenhof today with Sarah! It is claiming to be the most beautiful spring garden in the world. We enjoyed the tulips, daffodils, hyacinths and other spring bulbs and had a lovely day.
