Grandma came over from the UK to visit us. We went to the zoo in Rotterdam with Sarah (she had got "Miffy/Nijntje in the zoo" for Easter)!. Sarah was fascinated by all the different animals. She enjoyed especially the aquarium. There are a some pictures of Sarah's zoo-adventures in Sarah's photo gallery.
We have snow!
23.03.2008 HAPPY EASTER!!! Sorry for not updating the news section for over a month! We were a bit busy... Here is a summary of what we have been up to: Sarah has been ill with some sort of gastroenteritis for about 7 weeks. Not constantly, but about 7 episodes in these 7 weeks. The doctor had no explanation apart from her picking stuff up in the crèche (Krippe). We even put her on a dairy free diet for some time, but it wasn't that. So we decided to keep her at home for 2.5 weeks to see whether she would still get ill. Well, at the beginning of these 2.5 weeks she got chicken pox (Windpocken), but apart from that she has been fine the whole time! Sarah will go back to crèche next week and we hope she does not get ill again. I (and partly also Nick) have been working at home, spreading my work over the whole day and the whole week to get all my work done. It was really nice to spend so much time with Sarah!
Sarah has started to open any zip she can get hold off - including those on her sleeping bag... She is standing now, holding on to tables or sofas, but she can't get up by herself, yet. She has been saying "Dag" (Dutch) already for a long time when waving good-bye, but no other words so far. She is also saying "ei" (German) when she is stroking us, "wau" (German for woof) when she sees a bird (!) in the garden and some sort of "kikeriki" (German for cock-a-doodle-doo) for the lamp, because of the cockerel on the lamp. Sarah has also been to the local nurse for some vaccinations last week. She weighs now 9.3 kg and is 75cm tall. Nevertheless, some of the size 80 stuff is already getting too small.
The sun was shining for the first time this year, I believe! We enjoyed the weather on a little cycling trip with Sarah. In the afternoon Sarah tried to paint with finger paints what she had seen on the trip. A couple of pictures are in Sarah's photo gallery.
03.01.2008 We have been to England for a long weekend. We decided to take the ferry from Calais this time rather than from Dunkerque - just to find that Calais is even worse for arriving too early... The sea was quite rough, but Sarah enjoyed the crossing. And she also enjoyed all the attention from her grandma, aunt and cousins.

Sarah's first birthday (pictures in the photo gallery)!
We had a lovely day. Sarah enjoyed unwrapping her presents. She had a little
birthday cake (marble cake) with one candle on it and we blew it out together.
In the afternoon friends and their two little boys joined for a little birthday
party.
